STRADDLING -

We do have a live straddle in NLHE, meaning the under the gun player may post a double blind ($2) before the cards are dealt.  This player is then allowed to act last pre-flop.

We do not permit a double straddle, or any other kind of straddle for that matter.  We do also NOT permit straddles in any other games besides NLHE and Pineapple.  The live UTG straddle is always optional, only for NLHE and never required.

RUNNING IT TWICE

For games with community cards (flop, turn, river) only.  NLHE, PLO, PLO8, BIG O, etc.

If ever two players are heads-up and all-in, they have the option to run the rest of the board once or twice - not more than that.  If the hand is multi-way the board may not be run more than once until everyone is all in.  Even then, the house discourages running the board more than once in a multi-way pot as it's easy for people to get confused and it can be a waste of time negotiating.  If it's quick and easy, fine, but if there's any whiff of disagreement or confusion multi-way then we are only running it once!

If one player doesn't want to do it, then it doesn't happen.  Both have to agree.  There is to be no pressuring or cajoling players into running the board more than once, in the long run it doesn't make a difference - it only flattens variance in the short term.

Etiquette Note - if you are not in the hand, it is not really your place to mention running it twice.  All players at this point know about the option.  It is a very minor point about influencing action, but still one worth mentioning.

*********

BOMB POTS!

- On Big Bet Friday Night Cash NLHE/PLO - we have bomb pots!

- Every player is given a bomb pot chip to use once in the evening.  Players may only use their chip from the button. Button moves normally.

- Bomb Pots are always optional. If a player sits out of a bomb pot hand, they still must pay their blind ($1) if they are the blind on that Bomb Pot hand.

- A bomb pot is where everyone puts in FOUR DOLLARS (4 big blinds, which is the standard), cards are dealt and we go straight to the flop.

The last hand of the night can be a double board bomb pot!

Players using their Bomb Pot chip have 2 game options and 4 board options - Single board NLHE, double board NLHE or single or double board PLO.

THE NIT GAME

For Big Bet Friday Night Cash only.  The NIT game is always No-Limit Hold-Em only.

The Nit Game, is derived from and is effectively the same thing as  - The Stand Up Game

HOWEVER - as of 2026 we will be changing our NIT Game to the SQUID Game!

Squid Game Rules -

Starting at 930 we will keep playing and then finish whatever game we are on (including NLHE if it happens to be that) and then the game will be No-Limit Hold-Em until the Squid Game is concluded, which with this new format is exactly 10 hands.  This will be explained shortly.

Participation is not mandatory.  Players may take a break if they like.

Instead of everyone getting a Nit button to start, there will be 10 Nit buttons set aside in a stack.

When you win a hand you win a Nit button.

When all 10 buttons have been won, every player who has not won a button will pay $1 per button to the button holding players.  So the nice thing is, losing player(s) are only on the hook for $10 total each, as opposed to up to $18 in the previous format.  Also a benefit - the Nit Game always only goes for 10 hands.

When the Nit Game starts, there is no moving of the button beyond it's normal movement.  Play doesn't change order.  When the Nit Game concludes, the button carries on as normal.  The game changes to PLO.

This also means that if you win a bunch of Nit buttons, you are going to win potentially quite a bit more.  For example if you win 5 buttons, and there are say 6 players who have no buttons, you're getting $30! (as opposed to $2 max in the previous format).

I really like how this rewards aggression and action, and yet is gentler to the losing player(s).  The most you can ever owe as a losing player is $10, not up to $18 as it was previously.

As always - you are expected to reload if you bust in the Nit Game and honor your commitment to the game by paying out if you lose the game.  If you are unable to reload and/or pay out, the house will pay the $10 you owe and you can pay me later or Venmo me.  This is especially so if it means the difference between you leaving and staying for more poker.

Just for the record, and in case we ever go back to it - here are the old retired NIT Game rules.

The Stand Up Game, as far as I can tell, originated in Texas.

  •  Everyone at the table has to stand-up and stay standing while they play.
  •  When a player wins a pot, they get to sit down.  (A chopped main pot, players remain standing)
  •  The last player standing pays a bounty/penalty to all seated players.
  • This amount is typically 4-8 big blinds.  So in a $10/$20 game it could be $100 a player.

The NIT game is the same game, but instead of standing up, players all receive a NIT button at the start of the game.

This will save our knees and backs because we are old, ha ha.

When a player wins a pot, they get rid of their NIT button.   Last player with a NIT button pays all the other players a bounty/penalty.

  • NIT Game starts at 930pm. (We finish the hand we are on 1st). Button is not affected.
  • Participation is NOT mandatory - players may sit out and take a snack/bathroom break.
  • All participants get a NIT button.  When a player wins a pot, their NIT button goes away.
  • To get rid of your NIT button you must table your hand.
  • Last player with a NIT button pays all other participating players $2 apiece.
  • If players are all in and running it twice, only the first board counts towards the Nit Game.
  • A second NIT Game may go if everyone is on board.
  • If you are felted and yours is not the last NIT button you have three options
    • Reload and continue with your NIT button. (This is what is expected)
    • Withdraw from playing altogether and take a break until the NIT game is over. If you choose this option you do not get paid the NIT bounty.
    • If you are done for the night, out of cash and past your limit for reloads, then we will say good night with no hard feelings.  Obviously you don't get paid any NIT bounty.
  • If you are the last player remaining with a NIT button and are felted, you are expected to reload and pay the players in bounty.
    • If you are all out of cash and have to leave, the house will cover for you. You can then pay the house via Venmo/PayPal or in cash the next poker night.
    • If you are short on cash and don't want to spend your money on hand to pay the bounty, the house is happy to cover for you - you can then pay the house via Venmo, or in cash the next poker night.

The bounty amount may be raised if all players agree, the host will suss out the consensus.  $5 seems like it would be a great price point, but I would rather have everyone participating rather than several sitting out than insist on this higher amount.

The second NIT Game may or may not happen depending on the consensus at the table.  As always the game is optional.

KILL POTS!

Optional on Big Mix Friday Night Cash                             Mandatory on Fix Limit Friday Night Cash

If someone Scoops two pots in a row the Kill Pot Marker comes out!

A face up "Kill" button is placed in front of that player and they must immediately post a double big blind or a double-bring in.

Blind games - Blinds are still posted at $1/$2 but limits are $4/$8 - so it's $4 to call, $8 for a raise. Pot killer must post $4 and act in turn.

Stud games - Antes remain the same.  Bring-In is $2.  Complete is $4.  Limits are $4/$8.  Pot killer must post $2 and act in turn.

Kill Pot (double limits) ends when player with Kill button fails to scoop the next hand.  Button is turned face down and stays in place if there was not a scoop, Face down Kill button is moved over to the scooping player if there is a scoop.  He/She turns the button up and the Kill is on if he/she scoops a second pot.  It stays down if they split or lose.  It is only pushed over when a player scoops.

REMEMBER YOUR ETIQUETTE!

Please be reasonably on time and call if you're running late.

Players are expected to play for 3 HOURS or 3 BUY-INS minimum.  This is the minimum for etiquette.  If you drop a single buy-in at 20 minutes in and then take off you will not be invited back.  Also, if you just do the minimum every time, look to not be invited back eventually as well.

A reasonable minimum budget for these stakes is $200-$300.

If you are not comfortable with this large an amount, this game is probably not for you.

Talking about a live hand, unless you are in the hand and it's heads-up, is not allowed.  This is especially so for big bet games - less so for fixed limit.

Please, these are very low stakes - so keep drama to a minimum. If you're looking to "clean up" at the expense of the feelings of others or just plain old good manners, go to Commerce.

This game is not necessarily open to everyone; the host will give priority to the more regular and more agreeable/lower maintenance players at Pepper St. on the initial Evite.

Also, if you are consistently crushing the game - the host may put you on a break, with or without telling you, for as long as the host deems appropriate.

------------

On a Saturday tournament night - the first table to break will be available for cash game play.

Tournament night cash games are $20-$60 max buy in,  typically NLHE only, with a single $1 blind.
